Finnish language, job-seeking and career skills training
- After completing the “As a Christian in Finland” course, you will learn to speak Finnish and gain the skills to apply for jobs. You will get to know the Finnish working life and discover a profession that interests you.
- You will gain the skills to search for job postings, update your CV, write job applications, and practice job interviews.
- You will understand how Finnish society and democracy work.
- You will become an active member of society, find ways to influence community matters, and get to know public services.
- You will make Finnish friends and become familiar with Finnish culture and its values.
- You will learn about the Bible and understand why the church plays an important role in Finland. You will find your own place within the congregation.
The applicant asks their municipality’s employment services about the possibility of having these studies approved as studies that promote employment and language skills for an unemployed person.
You will study in a calm and friendly environment in Kauniainen (Helsingintie 10, Kauniainen), which is easily accessible from Helsinki by train or bus.
Study periods
Autumn 2026 study period (18 weeks)
Module 1: Level A1.1 – A1.3 | 19 Aug – 16 Oct 2026 (9 weeks)
Module 2: Level A1.3 – A2.1 | 19 Oct – 22 Dec 2026 (9 weeks)
For students continuing from the autumn study period to the spring study period, 4–5 Jan 2027 will be teaching days.
Spring 2027 Study Period (21 weeks)
Module 3: Level A2.1 – A2.2 | 7 Jan – 19 Mar 2027 (11 weeks)
Module 4: Level A2.2 – B1.1 | 22 Mar – 2 Jun 2027 (11 weeks)

Contents of Studies
- Mainly Finnish language studies; no prior knowledge required.
- For unemployed: up to 25 hours per week.
- For others: full-time studies, 26 hours per week.
- Learning and reviewing study and digital skills.
- Social studies, workplace skills, and entrepreneurship education.
- Cultural knowledge and Finnish history.
- Preparation for vocational studies and working life in Finland.
- 3 weeks language internship in spring, if the student’s language skills are good enough.
- Guidance in finding a study or career path.
- Visits to cultural sites and key institutions of Finnish society.
- In the autumn semester, meeting with a member of parliament and visiting the parliament house.
At the end of the course, the student's language proficiency will range between A2.2 and B2.2, depending on their starting level and their own level of activity in learning the language. The language of instruction is simplified Finnish, with English used as a support language.
Who is this training for?
This course welcomes all who have immigrated to Finland, regardless of age or country of origin. You can apply for a study place once you have obtained a residence permit.

Financing of studies
The course fee is €265 per month. The fee includes teaching, study materials, lunch and coffee on school days, insurance, and entrance fees for study visits.
Students may apply for student financial aid from Kela for this full-time study program.
After you have been accepted and started your studies, you may apply for a study voucher (opintoseteli). The amount of funding available is limited, and receiving a voucher depends on the number of applicants, the applicant’s financial situation, and progress in studies. If you receive a study voucher, your personal course fee will be €100–200 per month.
